Hello P.G.S. this was an American novel, a collaboration between Lee and Andrew Child, titled In Too Deep. The changes in both character and story style are noticeable since their co-authoring of the Jack Reacher books began. Rapid fire conversions in this book threw me off, I had to backtrack.
