if you weren't aware the Switch 1 and 2 have different best sellers charts, MK World is #7 on Switch 2.
Also I have no idea if they count the bundled copies that come on the console as a digital sale on the eshop.

Realistically, video game sales are such a miniscule percentage of TPC's total revenue they don't really care about that. May as well help Nintendo move some consoles.

The real reason it is free is no new content was added to the release btw.
All of the paid ones add new game content, while the free ones don't beyond upgraded performance/graphics.
