I get the sentiment, but I'd much rather prefer not all of the users being from the US, you know?

🇺🇸 nationalism has been split into two factions for a long while now. One seeks global primacy by economic, cultural and military means and has been the guiding principle of 🇺🇸 foreign policy for a really long time. The other, its primitive little brother called expansionism, is now having a comeback.

Trump's annexation dreams are not motivated by personal gain. They are a symptom of a mentality that has been present (yet ignored) in 🇺🇸 for a very long time. It's the same mentality that drove the annexations of 🇵🇭 & Hawaii as well as Manifest Destiny and so much more.

First, this isn't a lot of money for him. Second, he owes a shit ton to a shit ton of people, the 🇵🇦 gov is his least concern in this regard. Third, an annexation wouldn't necessarily make the debt vanish. Panama's state or territory gov could claim it as the legal successor of the sovereign gov.

Danke, liebe Grüße und frohe Weihnachten zurück!🎄

It's satire, sadly. Right now everyone is keeping their heads down in order to not piss Trump off.

Very good points! We will see how things turn out and I'll make sure to check back on this thread when the time has come.

Thanks! But I'm afraid the further a prediction reaches the less useful it gets. Feel free to attempt yourself though, would be interested to hear your take.

Yup, but definitely could've been either.

Definitely realistic. Putin will try to squeeze out as much as possible, especially since he won't have to expect any resistance from Trump and Ukraine has next to no leverage.
December 9, 2024 at 2:08 PM
If Putin agrees to such terms, everybody would get what they want. Except Ukraine, but they wouldn't have much of a choice.

Such a deal might work (temporarily) but it has the potential to threaten the integrity of international law. An aggressor cannot be allowed to annex territory like that.
December 9, 2024 at 1:37 PM
I have no idea what Putin will do. But maybe he'll take the partial victory and use it for his propaganda while using the (most likely only temporary) peace to rebuild military capabilities. That's at least what many actual experts seem to believe.
December 9, 2024 at 1:37 PM
NATO probably would. While they aren't fond of the idea, NATO leadership itself has already proposed membership for all unoccupied territories of Ukraine. But NATO isn't a monolith: Such a plan would need to be approved by a variety of actors with different agendas, including the likes of #Orban.
December 9, 2024 at 1:37 PM
Though Trump refuses to talk about it publicly, he has hinted at a peace plan where #Russia would get to keep the annexed territories. #Zelenskyy has already stated the condition for that: NATO membership. But would NATO and Putin agree to such a deal?
December 9, 2024 at 1:37 PM
Let's set the stage: Ukraine is struggling. They'd need more support not less. Trump wants to end the conflict to gain a victory, but doesn't care about Ukraine. #Putin wants what he'll always want: more. And #NATO wants less: less conflict, less responsibility, less talk about Ukrainian membership.

I guess that sentiment is much more the result of frustration with the industry as a whole than of frustration with the actual quality of the games. Crunch, half-finished games at release, copyright models where you don't actually own the game anymore, etc create nostalgia for simpler times.

Really interesting, especially considering Palin is a member of Assemblies of God as well. Maybe there's a connection between the groups?

Very far from 5,000😅

These are just the reasons I consider these cases interesting when discussing the next US administration, not an actual analysis or anything.

If you're in the US: Stay strong. Bolsonaro, Pinochet and Salazar are gone and Milei and Trump will be too. Keep fighting. The world has your back.
