@matociquala.bsky.social I just discovered "On Safari In R'Lyeh and Carcosa with Gun and Camera" and bought the eBook. Regardless of the weather, I am going to have some reading time over the next week, so this is awesome to find right now.

"Are you looking for a fun side hustle?" as the opening for a job opening sounds like a warning for upcoming wage theft.

It's all so fucking dumb. I am disappointed in my country, in my culture, and I am disappointed in myself that I haven't done more to change things for the better.

Here's one of our tiny baby snails, along with a TINY baby snail from a later clutch. The little ones will ride around on the big ones. The big ones don't realize that the little ones are there, so you get an "elderly driver plows through the farmer's market" thing.

Last night, Meghan was cold and sent me to get her blanket for her. Burton was laying on it and I felt bad for making him move so I wrapped him up in my blanket to make up for it.

Zoe shows off her morning oats. The buns get a few oats each morning for breakfast. You might notice that she is wearing some of her breakfast. This is normal. After you start dropping oats in their bowl but before you finish, a rabbit will materialize between.

I have a friend who makes educational videos in programming. This is the most recent and covers the basic definitions of some of the elements in Java.

I found this stuff on the ground in my walk with Burton today. It looks like a powder, but it was cold and melted away when I touched it. There wasn't very much of it.

Do anything at Planck Length - even measurement - and you're concentrating enough energy in a small enough space that you cause black holes. Neat!

Morning frost tracing delicate patterns on the roof of my car. Nature is wonderful, it can even make a Kia interesting to look at.

Stretch and roll - kitty cats love a nice sunspot, and Everleigh is no exception. This is on our dishwasher in the middle of our kitchen. I kept worrying that she was going to fall off, but she knows what she's doing (at least in this instance).

Before and after.(Ok, it's after, then before, but no one says it that way).Anyways, little tread things on the sidewalk, plus almost-sunset light. Process: I take a photo on my phone with the quality set to raw, which gives me a large, unprocessed file. Which is why the original looks really flat and gray - there's more information in the file than the screen can really show. Next, I import whichever individual picture I like into Adobe Lightroom. In Lightroom, I adjust the brightness and contrast across different tonal zones of the imageOn some images, I do so for different areas within the frame. For this one, I selected and performed adjustments on the sky and foreground. I also do color balance and saturation adjustments, and adjustments to sharpness, clarity and dehaze.I crop the image. If it's for Instagram, like this one is, I crop it into a square, a 1:1 ratio. I have Lightroom autocorrect the perspective - essentially it straightens out the image and squares things up the best it can. On this image, the only things I used automated processes on were those adjustments and the selection of the sky and foreground. For many images, I will select things myself using gradients or brushes, but the automated sky select works pretty well without looking weird. For all the adjustments to how the image actually looks, I'm poking the sliders up and down myself. Oh and finally, I use the vignette tool to darken the edges. I've always done it. My hands still remember how to move to burn in the edges under an enlarger...but now it's just a slider on a touchscreen. Much quicker, but not as fun as using a piece of cardstock with a ragged hole in the middle of it in a dark room.

Sometimes, if he's very happy or excited, BOTH of Burton's ears go up. I had an appointment after work yesterday, then errands. So when I got home, he was really excited. While my family members don't love being whined at when I am not there, it's good to know that I am loved.
