However, this is also what makes it dangerous, at least for me. It conditions me to avoid the risks that real fellowship and intimacy demands. While it is true, what it inspires within me is hollow.

The real risk and danger in the former is also often so blunted that it just passes into the latter anyway.

Why wont this body move

Our desire is also always guilty for the same reason. It is distinct from the command whose authority we recognize. It also does not exist until the command exists so ignorance is not a defense. We are always in the wrong and can never catch up without killing the Other, the main evil.

Only in distinction to the Other does our and their desire become manifest and the ambiguity of choice, in a sense, resolved. In other words, our desire only exists in contrast to the desire of the Other which is their command not to be killed.

This is because the Other demands not to be killed, thus constituting a new world (i.e. being, and thus beings, is constituted by this command).

And by passion, I do not mean a momentary urge to do this or that but a more enduring tendency that seems to emerge in distinct forms.

What I mean by "your values" is not a set of goals that you select through force of will (which is impossible). Rather, it is the set of ends of all those passions which you find yourself with right now.

Which is not to say that I no longer hate most, if not all, my neighbors. It has definitely softened my heart and lessened the degree though.
