If the contingency for the servers staying on really was only that providers were guaranteed to not be protected, I can mostly get behind that. But I'm worried there's something else going on too. And the current administration could have taken that step themselves.

I've had the same thoughts. My understanding is their beliefs indicate that if someone has never had the opportunity to join them, then they are giving the dead the opportunity to hear and accept their religion, and if they don't accept then they face some sort of punishment. The arrogance is unreal
