Councillor Kirby-Yung put forth an alternate motion which was amended by Clr. Fry and seconded by Clr. Klassen.

In short, keep working with CBO and FD to try to make BCBC SEC work for Vancouver. Report back in Fall 2025.

Only got to see the first few slides from Inge / AIR studio due to speaker time limit. But it was enough to convince the councillors SES is critical to unlocking Missing Middle housing

Every single speaker was against the staff recommendation, and for the adoption of BCBC SES. Great to see Bryn, Inge and Nitesh speak compellingly in person, and Public Architecture and Vincent Min called in to provide findings of their research into the benefits of SES.

Staff report recommended dismissing the BCBC outright, instead crafting a Vancouver-specific solution. Council did not like this, wanted to move towards harmony with BCBC.

ICYMI, Vancouver Fire Rescue, Chief Building Official and GM of Development come out hard against BCBC's SES. Slide show by Corrie Okell highlighted the pros and cons of SES but overall left the impression that SES were too risky for fire rescue services.
