I did wonder how Trump would square his "everything was terrible until I got here" shtick with the fact that he'd been president for four years already.

I didnt expect he'd go with the obviously nonsensical "I fixed everything, then Biden undid it all, so now I have to fix it again" line".

A reminder of what some British right-wing politicians, pundits and papers were saying about Trump and January 6th, in the days after it happened.

Spoiler alert: they seemed to agree with Panorama's view of things...

His claims about defamation and fake news have always focused on media outlets not highlighting that he said "peacefully and patriotically" - that's not defamation, it's just standard editorialising.

Did panorama's splice actually change Trump's message?

He told people they need to "fight like hell" to prevent the election being "stolen" - the only opportunity to do that was to go to the capitol that afternoon, to prevent the certification.

Whether he meant literal violence is irrelevant.

I'm not here to bat for the BBC, but I'm genuinely disgusted and infuriated by how this has blown up.

The BBC need to grow a spine and defend themselves, and us, from these fascists across the pond.

They're not our allies - they're a threat to our democracy.
November 11, 2025 at 4:22 PM
These are also the same people who run front pages screaming about Gary Lineker's £1.35m salary, calling it "BBC waste."

But Trump sues for ONE BILLION DOLLARS of *our licence fee money*, and they... cheer him on?

There's a word for that kind of thing - the one they threw at judges over Brexit.
November 11, 2025 at 4:22 PM
Panorama's edit was clumsy, I won't lie - they could have made the same point without such a crude cut.

But I'm not having all this fake outrage about their underlying message, because we all knew what happened back in 2021, and plenty of the BBC's loudest critics are on record saying so.

The Daily Mail: "Trump's hate mob storm the Capitol".

The Times: "Shots fired as president tells mob to 'take back the country'"

Headline: "Only Trump is to blame for the Capitol chaos."

"The centre of US democracy has come under assault... misled by a president who seems intent on leaving office as a sore and sinister loser."

I think it's right that deceptive coverage should be investigated - we should hold the BBC to the highest standards.

But the gusto with which RW politicians/pundits are throwing them under the bus of most petulant man in the world is so short-sighted in terms of future diplomacy.
November 9, 2025 at 9:24 PM
Exactly this.

It made my blood boil reading Karoline Leavitt's asinine comments about the BBC being a "left-wing propaganda machine", as it does whenever those ghouls try to demean, threaton or patronise us.

Do I get to call myself a patriot now? 🤔

The "trillions" he keeps talking about are the foreign investments he claims to have secured, not cash into the treasury.

Trump is a terrible communicator, but it baffles me to keep seeing this get misinterpreted and it's even weirder for his own cabinet to not clear this up.
November 9, 2025 at 6:50 PM
It seems pretty clear to me that when Trump talks about taking in "trillions of dollars" he's talking about the investment he claims to have secured from foreign companies.

So it's weird that Bessent continues to undermine their Supreme Court case by not clarifying this in interviewers.

Step 1 already happened...Biden was repeatedly asked about them before signing off on them. He even released an official statement to explain his reasoning, which remains on the white house website to this day.

Its hard to understate the amount of contempt both Comey and Fox must have for their viewers, to let him repeat this BS on air.

I'm in and from the UK, so I dont have much skin in the game.

But it's infuriating (and worrying) to see a seasoned journalist nodding along while his guest spews easily disprovable lies.

Biden was asked about this im interviews and released an official statement explaining his decision.
November 9, 2025 at 1:28 AM
Saying Biden's choice to pardon people was wrong is one thing.

But it's a whole new level of BSijng and parronising the public for this mf to be out here claiming Biden knew nothing about pardons that HE (Comey) went on TV and criticised before they even happened.
