My guess is too that it will be just a mirror of a full offscreen plasma session. But I'm also curious how exactly they'll do it, a regular pipewire screenshare, or perhaps some custom thing. In particular, how they'll make the plasma session sync the refresh rate with the display.

My guess is that the unnamed client is not Valve, but who knows, maybe it is.

You can gain an incredible amount of expertise *just* doing that. Of course success is not guaranteed, but there's a surprising amount of opportunities out there. Valve is the biggest and most visible player in the game but you can find this low level work in a lot more places than you'd think.

The most important thing is to not give up. It's easy to finish one thing and then abandon the topic. Just keeping on tinkering with a thing is so important and that's why it's important to choose a niche you actually like tinkering in, because you want to keep at it for a couple of years

People are often afraid of low level complicated areas, but you don't have to be. Just use C a lot and get a solid understanding how memory management works. gstreamer, wayland, mesa drivers, vulkan, synchronization, linux kernel - sounds scary? Yes, but just don't care and start doing.

Linux support for WebXR in desktop chromium would be the quickest and most straightforward way.

I know, I know, game engines can be dynamic and evict unused assets and stream new ones in, but why should they have to, just because GPU makers insist on selling GPUs with anemic VRAM sizes? What will games be like in few years? How often do you want to upgrade your GPU?

It finally became available today. The cooling is definitely loud, but tbh not that much louder than my Gigabyte 6900XT at max fan speed.
Btw here is running my 2 kde sessions (private and work) + Baldur's Gate 3 at 4k, freshly started and loaded into Ac3. Yes, VRAM usage is > 16 GB.

Eh, what else am I gonna do with my money, I ordered the Sapphire one because it has 4x Displayport. But so far the only one with actual availability seems to be the Asrock one, but well, Asrock is currently best known for frying CPUs with their mainboards...
