Perpetually exhausted 50-something Scottish techie, geek, guitarist, and (deservedly) unpublished novelist. Marginal deist and radical centrist who doesn't believe in Santa, Capitalism or Socialism.
Treason Felony Act 1848.

"to move or stir any Foreigner or Stranger with Force to invade the United Kingdom or any other Her Majesty's Dominions or Countries under the Obeisance of Her Majesty, Her Heirs or Successors."

This. We are where we are, and still have Starmer seriously considering AUUKUS and F-35s, when we need to be taking domestically and building a separate defence and security apparatus

Last year the Supreme Court effectively placed POTUS above the law, and gave him the kind of powers associated with an absolute monarch.

When your Supreme Court is the last stop in the legal process and that court is corrupt, you're in a spot of bother.

She served the Maduro administration and Chavez before that, for 22 years.

She's head of the Venezuelan Intelligence Agency. Fare more likely a loyalist, rather than a fearful fellow traveller.

For those unsurprisingly unwilling to read the article, half is a rant about how terrible the Beeb is, but he's not bitter, oh no.

The other half: His "solution" is to scrap the licence then destroy the Beeb by rolling it up into a commercial streaming monster along with EVERY other UK broadcaster.

Ah, Keir Starmer. Truly a skillful driver. No diversion untaken, no U-turn unturned.

Cheerleading the blatantly illegal kidnapping of a head of state, even one as scummy as Maduro.
January 4, 2026 at 5:41 AM
Oh come on. I thought the Great Replacement was a GOP lunatic thing. Too much projection.
January 3, 2026 at 7:10 PM
If ever there were a case of the rats evaluating the degree of list on the GOP ship hull and swimming for the far off shores of moderate politics this is it.

Sure, give Jewish Space Laser lady a chance to repent, but she's got a lot to do.

Really Sky? You're almost making me wish you were still owned by Rupert Murdoch. Better the Devil You Know, etc, etc

I did. I knew I would.

Thing is, all he's done so far is kidnap a couple of people. That's light years away from running, controlling, and subjugating a country of 29 million people.

The former means international condemnation. The latter means lots of American body bags. America's public needs to understand that.

Invading a country is a far cry from kidnapping a national leader. You'd think they'd have learnt that by now.

Geneva Convention:

POWs "must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity."

Used to be Trump would break a law/treaty/convention a day, not every hour.

The Gimli lookalike is very dangerous over short distances.

I mean other than the gigantic, technically advanced military that seems content to accept his obviously illegal orders, sure, there's nothing to stop them.
January 3, 2026 at 5:38 PM
This is such a simple piece of advice that is routinely ignored.
January 3, 2026 at 5:32 PM
This "Nobel Prize Winner" appears to be as much of a criminal as Maduro. All about the patronage, as per usual.
January 3, 2026 at 5:28 PM
It doesn't. The vast majority of non-mammalian species don't hibernate, and only about half of mammal species do, and this includes no primates.
January 3, 2026 at 3:18 PM
They should. But they didn't. And it's hardly the first illegal order in this presidential term they've blithely carried out.
January 3, 2026 at 3:05 PM
Quite a lot of the treaty feels that way, really. People seem to think Article 5 commits all members to military action, but it really just commits members to take: "such action as they deem necessary, *including* the use of armed force."
January 3, 2026 at 2:52 PM
Nope. Article 1, paraphrased for brevity:

"Parties agree to settle international disputes by peaceful means so that international peace/security/justice is not endangered, and to refrain in their international relations from the threat/use of force in a manner at odds with the goals of the UN."
