In Portugal, you get oil and vinegar. Classic salad dressing, but no one actually mixes the two together to create an emulsion that sticks to your salad. You just get bottles of each at the table to make your own vinegar-y veggies in a puddle of olive oil.

This is probably a little lame, but the collection of ghostwriters posing as Franklin W. Dixon and Carolyn Keene. My interests expanded after this, but devouring a Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew book that I got from the school library between school and dinner is my earliest memory of reading for fun.
