It’s just shockingly callous. I’m genuinely gutted for these people who have worked so hard for us only to be rewarded with this. I’m hoping that it’ll be challenged in court on similar grounds to the 2008 judicial review but god knows how long that will take.

Do you think it’s possible that it’s simply not been thought through properly, or is it deliberate? From my perspective it’s disastrous for the care sector. Yet there’s no apparent plan to fill the already existing 110,00 vacancies. Make it make sense!

Yes the thing about being bound to the same employer is a biggie. They already feel that they are indentured labour & can’t risk rocking the boat for fear of losing their visa. And the agency that employs my carers is one of the better ones. I know of some who only give staff one day off per week.

Dear god. Where to even start with that.

I have care workers from India, Zimbabwe & Nigeria. All came on 5-year visas & will now have to wait 15 yrs for indefinite leave to remain. But there’s worse to come: care visas will not be renewed after 2028 so even if they wanted to stay they’ll not be able to reach the 15-year mark. Disastrous.

How on earth are the Tories two points ahead of Labour and the Greens? What is wrong with people?

Absolutely.

I can only think of one—same sex marriage. But wasn’t that during the coalition years?

Dan, couldn’t the retrospective policy be challenged in court? There was a 2008 judgment against the government when they tried to apply a change to immigration rules retrospectively. A precedent?

Appalling. I can see this getting challenged in the courts. People who came on a 5-year visa had a reasonable expectation of the rules remaining the same. Whatever happened to ‘British fair play’?

I thought I’d heard all of the rude names for Blojo, but B’Orifice is a cracker 😆. Stealing!

I am so, so tired. I want this all to stop now please.

Is she actually arguing that by introducing a bigoted racist policy—incidentally welcomed by bigoted racists like Yaxley Lennon—that this will lead to LESS racist bigotry and fewer racist bigots making bigoted racist remarks to people like her? Is that supposed to make logical sense?

That statement is positively Trumpian.
