"Webgewicht" in particular ("weaving-weight") is not exactly a term crying out for glossing if you have the first clue how weaving works.

Both German and Spanish have Wikipedia articles for loom weights (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webgewi..., es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pondera), so I think the problem might be that philologists have never been to a living history museum

You don't get to do the "look we're boring respectable middle-class liberals" bit if you cave in two decades earlier to the people who want to eliminate you from visibility and public life. And the way you don't cave in is Stonewall etc.

The bits of the gay rights movement you cite are the "we've already won the debate" bit. You're conveniently forgetting the Stonewall riots and illegal pride marches bit.
