From Gwen: Hi Justin, Are you saying you no longer need me for this project? It wasn't clear, as “solve this issue in a different manner” implies there was an issue working with me/my contract. I wasn’t aware of one if so, and was agreeable to your budget. Would love more clarification. From Justin: Hi Gwen, Apologies if I was unclear. We no longer require your services. You are not a problem at all. We just found a different solution.

Not only was this demeaning to the amount of work I put into my productions, the man clearly never googled me because I’ve been on both Crave and Netflix.

an email from Gwen to Justin and Emma: Hi Justin, It was to my knowledge that Sweetness was a feature film, but considering that you’re a low budget indie film, I am open to negotiation. To clarify about the nature of the work - for every 10 minutes of final video I produce, at least two hours of work goes shooting. I am my entire production team, so I am doing my own lighting/videography on top of prepping makeup, wardrobe, and then the acting itself. Editing and uploading time are also considered when I set my rates. I am creating this footage specifically for this production - it’s not simply licensing old videos of mine. And as a note - my work has been featured on Netflix (Money Shot: the PornHub story), and I’ve guested on Crave Original programming. As you’re in a very similar creative field, I hope you can respect and value the work that goes into video production, even if my work does include eroticism. Happy to find a time to chat via phone or video as well. Hope you have a great day!

This is the email I received next from the Sweetness producer.
An email from Justin Kelly that reads: Hello Gwen, Thanks for your reply. That’s quite steep for our production. The interest here was that we weren’t going to need to hire a union performer to do the scene and that we could license a clip from a professional in your industry. $1,700 is actually significantly more than a union performer would get doing the same number of lines. Our scope of understanding going into this was that it would be about 15 mins of work for you saying some lines to camera (in a POV style shot) and hunkering down as though you were to perform the sex act and then we’d be done. We were also happy with the lines that Emma had written and her invitation for you to riff on them was perhaps more for authenticity but certainly not mandatory. Further we were happy to show your name or website name in the film and hoped that would have value to you. I am unsure if websites in your industry get featured in movies on Netflix, Amazon, and Crave. $500 really is the scope of stock footage licensing we can afford on a low budget indie film. If you feel this is far too little for your time in this endeavour I can try to come up with a bit more money. Please let me know your thoughts.
