HOWEVER, sitting here today we would say that conceding and not backing the civil rights movement would have been wrong. The civil rights movement got a lot done. It affected people’s lives in real material ways and continues to do so. But oh no, trans issues lose elections.

Finally, and I understand that most people will stop listening to me here because they view the dems’ chances of winning an election as the be all and end all, but we shouldn’t concede because it’s not right. The civil rights movement was vastly unpopular. It lost democrats elections…

New York State dems last midterms is a great example of this. They tried to make concessions on crime/criminal justice/policing. They lost safe seats. Instead of making concessions, which will lose voter turnout, they should shift the focus to economic issues.

Even when democrats make social concessions. The formula for democrats winning elections is to focus on economic issues. So they should do that. They should NOT be tweeting divisive things about social issues, because when the focus is there, that’s precisely where they lose.

Second, giving up social ideas isn’t actually the best way to court moderates. This graph is often used, in fact, to explain why democrats win when an election focuses on economic issues, while republicans win when an election focuses on social issues. This seems to happen…

Increasing voter turnout among the safe democratic base (liberal-liberal) than courting a smaller number of moderate voters. You can’t have both because giving up socially left points to please moderates will lose you voter turnout in your safe base.

First, while there are way more economically liberal socially conservative voters than the opposite, the amount is overstated. There’s still two main clusters on that graph, one of which has the majority of the democratic electorate. So I’d say it’s more important to work on…

This is the basis on which sen murphy is saying this. We lose moderate/undecided voters due to social liberalism. So we should court them by giving up on the more leftist social points. Right? The answer is sort of kind of maybe. But there’s several issues with that logic:

Let’s start with this common graph of the 2016 electorate. The main takeaways from this graph in a general context are:
1. There’s very few “economically conservative socially liberal” people
2. The people who could go either way are economically liberal and socially conservative

You know his mods and editors have been offering him invites too they were the first ones here. He probably rejected an invite from Frogan and that’s crazy

And as many have pointed out, the other lesson is to not post things showing a grudge against your employee Bennie could sue them for so much if she wanted to

A lesson to take though is that no one is immune to reactionary thoughts and the right wing pipeline. Not that Cenk and Ana were farthest left to start with, but people didn’t see this coming. Even if you’re a progressive or leftist, you need to be constantly vigilant against reactionary tendencies
