The nutty bit — other than the full plastic wrap, that is: I walked by this bowl ~8hrs ago. Looks untouched.
Perhaps wrapping perfectly fine apples in an impenetrable layer of petrochemicals is…hear me out: off-putting?! 🍎🍏

Can confirm: technology and design have both improved in past 25 years.
Though we did end up with 2 gadgets instead of 1, to achieve the same thing: @npr.org + alarm.

There's clearly some bad news here, too.
But now, natural gas won't be ascendant for much longer, or stay there through the end of the century.
The forces driving down climate tech costs are just too strong.

In short, once clean techs are in the money and the world starts going down the path of decarbonization, change won't be linear.
It never is.
Even the least ambitious Shell scenario reaches near-zero emissions by 2100(!)

Compare it to this collection of paths, pulling from IPCC, IEA, and Shell(!).
Forget the title for now and zero in on the paths.
There's IPCC SSP3-7.0 — @climateactiontracker.org says that one won't happen. Good.
But more importantly, look at *all* the others, including Shell's most pessimistic.

This graph, based on @climateactiontracker.org's latest projections, has global CO₂ₑ emissions peak right now-ish and then decline by 2100.
Good, but look at the slope of the decline. It's basically a slow linear decline.
That's...not how the world works.

Great dissection of where the world stands on climate 10 years after Paris: better than ever; worse than needed.
Start here: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
But lemme quibble a bit with the CO₂ₑ emissions pathways painted here.

Vorsicht. Das alles ist dann schon radikal, mit den roten Bällen die da überall herum hängen.

Happy Mamdani Day, NYC!
Checking out socialist Vienna tonight, the cathedral does seem to have a red hue.
But the trains run on time, housing is plentiful, and the CEO of the local gas utility is working to get Viennese off gas entirely by 2040, induction stoves, geothermal heat pumps and all.
