The sky has gone completely dark. At the zenith of the picture, a ring of light where the moon is blocking the sun. Below and to the right of that is a sharp, white dot, the planet Venus. The horizon is a darkened yellow, as if the light is fading at the very edge of the horizon after sunset.

The light, all silvery and strange
Strange darkly silver light on the as totality approaches. A small islet in a retaining pond covered with resting Canada geese. Evening security lights are on, even though it is just after 3pm.
