Regardless of which of the owners, or their agents, did the job, it wasn't done properly. This house is a home for private tenants and those tenants were not properly protected. I hope the letting agents are better at arranging plumbers etc than they are at compliance with legal requirements.

Quite normal but also quite amazing that such an obvious point was not double-checked. You would have thought a likely party of government would have been on top of this. Where were the party's solicitors?

The purpose, though, of selective licensing, is to protect private renters from bad landlords. This goes completely against the spirit of Renter Reform. Reeves will also be in breach of her mortgage conditions. Badly advised, but a Chancellor's private affairs should demonstrate a grasp of detail.

Local authorities have all the responsibility and none of the power or respect. The only reform that could ever work in England would be to abolish local government and run everything from the centre. But then there would be no-one to scapegoat.
