Unless it comes from a dialect or an ethnic group that resides within Swahili speaking regions -Mufasa doesn't mean a thing to Swahili speakers.

Maybe I'm just in my feelings coz I know how these shows affect minority folks living there & I just want better for all of us. Wherever we are.

We see it here in this Helicopter Heist series where the backstory of the main character(s) has them being almost attuned to crime from childhood... Like it's in their nature. And that, to me, is concerning.

I feel like modern storytelling should have more responsible character development...

You'd hear their main characters (W American male lead) calling them 'vermin', 'a plague' or even something as simple as 'the bad guys'...
But you know the impact hits different in the real world when the Wite lead's words contribute to punching down minorities in real life...

I find it concerning coz it's more than just visuals, the language that they use on there is also very VERY concerning...
When that South American drugcartel series was at the height of its popularity, I noticed how language was used to paint this image of Latinx folk...

And maybe it's a Netflix thing, maybe Netflix does feed into this fetish of crime thrillers centering Brown & Black folk that is hyper-realistic & not the fantasy stuff that we see with shows like BreakinBad...

And not just any ordinary White gangs, they've got them ones... You know, the ones that are inspired by their bedsheet brethrens & dem... Or even their two-wheeler troops...
It's no joke.

Don't get me wrong, crime does happen in those corners of the world & I've seen some dodgy shit when I was there myself, but it feels like there's such a crafted emphasis on minorities being criminals -it makes you forget they've got their own White gangs there...
