Just a nobody, really, dipping my toe into these waters and trying to find chinks of light. Europhile, old fashioned Brit of the non racist variety but entering my 70s I kind of feel like Melvin Udall "What if this is as good as it gets?"
Trying to find a chink of light in the darkness, I think it entirely possible that he may not actually believe the bile he is spouting here but just sees this as an opportunity. Not much of a chink, for sure and I suspect he holds everyone in the same contempt.

How many people arriving on small boats have jewellery etc? The trafficking gangs will surely have searched them thoroughly to find and strip anything of value - they don't care about bad Tripadvisor reviews FFS! Denmark has a land border in case Mahmood didn't realise.

Why the qualification ("Even")? Dare I say that sounds just a litlte anti-semitic to me (a non-Jew) even if inadvertently so. Plenty of decent Jewish people just as appalled as Miriam is, both those of faith and those who just happen to be born to Jewish parents.

Something decidedly fishy about this whole resignation saga. It could simply be personal greed on the part of Davie (off to much more lucrative pastures new) or some other Machiavellian play, but I don't buy the story as it is being told.

Undermining it, or trying to redress the balance, just a little, and in the process largely presenting verifiable facts as opposed to out and out fantasies?

The Trump speech presentation was clumsy but not even really out of context, let alone misleading.

I have no clue or insight into what is happening, but if anyone thinks that "False flag" operations are not at least being considered by the IDF then I think they are very naive.

Well, look on the bright side - you don't have to drop out of "Strictly!"

"Who is against flags?" Well me, for a start, and religion too for similar reasons. And Orwell's essay was written as England (followed by Scotland and Wales but not immediately) faced imminent invasion by the Nazis - a context that needs to be included when considering his call to patriotism.

Exactly! Where on earth am I going to turn to now if I can't get to sleep???

A perfect analogy, sadly. This election shows a party out of touch with everyone except a tiny fringe, when it was supposed to be a new push for relevance. It is the LibDems that should be concerned if this were to succeed, but I don't think they have anything to worry about.

Describing him as favouring US business makes it sound acceptable to a wider range of people that would baulk at the reality. This is for him, only for him, and he doesn't give a fig for US business interests outside of that very narrow goal. People need to know that and be reminded at every turn.

Just had to take out a subscription after reading this! Witty and tragic in equal measure - this must surely be the low point in British culture and we are long overdue for a renaissance.

We've moved on more than a little than "If ...."

"Never not understand" I don't understand - do you mean you do or you don't understand?

If only it were curtains for Reform! Here's hoping.

Periodicity? Pretentious - Moi??

I can't be bothered to do a count, but living in SW France the majority of newbuilds and a great many older properties have heat pumps (including our 200yo stone house) which feature AC as well as heating.

Only 3 page's?
July 3, 2025 at 8:50 AM
Er, why "almost?" Isn't that a little over 2 to 1?
June 7, 2025 at 8:52 PM
Right now it doesn't strike me as a serious party and I am sorry about that. LibDems are not a lot better under Davey and I am sorry about that too. SNAFU I'm afraid, for now anyway.

Caroline Lucas had charisma, but was impeded by her overly socialist positioning (I happen to sympathise with them but they were economically dodgy). I felt Carla Denyer had potential but was still too green and inexperienced - I am sorry to see her go, whatever the real reason.

and councils until very recently but he managed to leverage his "charisma" (is that what charisma smells like - excrement?) to achieve a profile Greens can only dream of. Zack alludes to populist environmentalism but I don't see him appealing to anyone other than the already converted.

So what you're saying really, but not out loud, is that he's the best of a poor bunch. That may well be true and if so I wish him well, but let's compare the Greens to Reform, or whatver Nigel's band of merry men are called this week. They had the same or even less representation in parliament

And when you say "All I've heard now for 4 years.." who have you been listening to? A small group of like-minded people. They may also be decent, but it is no way to win elections. I hate the celebrity culture that has emerged in the UK in recent years but sadly I think it is here to stay.
