It's not boring, it's just not an RPG and lacks basic main line Final Fantasy elements.
If they called it "Final Fantasy - War of the Icons" or something else instead of Final Fantasy 16, no one would have any complaints.
It's just side games don't sell as well..

It's just a modern action game based on Arthurian legend. I don't think it's inspired by any one action game over another. FF16, Bayonetta, DMC, Lost Soul Aside, Dynasty Warriors, etc, are all just blending together at this point.
