This is the 10th day of the lunar cycle according the Tibetan way of numbering. For Vajrayana Buddhists, it is the day of the guru principle. In the specific Nyingma tradition, this is embodied in the towering figure Padmasambhava, AKA Guru Rinpoche. Hence, "Guru Rinpoche Day."

Some secrets are right out in the open where everyone is either unaware of them or ignores their value. If you wish to gain Enlightenment this post contains my advice. The Great Khyentse, the enlightened Jamyang Khyentse Wango incarnation split into 5 emanations - Body, Speech, Mind, Activity, and Qualities; Body = Guru Tsewang (Nyingma) Speech = First Beru Khyentse Rinpoche (Kagyü) Mind = Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (Nyingma) Activity = Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö (Sakya) Qualities = Ngawang Tutop Wangchuk (Sakya). The Qualities emanation was a Sakya Trizin, Ngawang Tutop Wangchuk - who had 5 children, all of whom emigrated to the United States of America, invited by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1960. His eldest son, Dagchen Sakya brought 11 people with him to the US from India after the diaspora out of Tibet. His wife's uncle HE Dezhung Rinpoche was one of those people. He was later known as "The Saint of Seattle". The first Tibetan Monastery was built in the US from the group that first studied under "The Saint of Seattle", His Eminence Dezhung Rinpoche, under the guidance of Dagchen Sakya, the head of the Phuntsok Podrang branch of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism. His Holiness Dagchen Sakya and his brother His Holiness Trinley Sakya were the sons of Ngawang Tutop Wangchuk, the Qualities emanation of the Great Khyentse, and studied with masters of all the schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon, in Tibet, because they were Rime' masters, just like their spiritual grandfather, Jamyang Khyentse Wango. Thus Sakya Monastery in Seattle, Washington was founded in this tradition of the Great Khyentses. What was it that made The Great Khyentses great? Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo was the body incarnation of Jikmé Lingpa, the great revealer of the Longchen Nyingtik cycle. Jikmé Lingpa himself was an incarnation of the King of Tibet, King Trisong Detsen. The Longchen Nyingtik cycle comes from Padmasambhava directly.
