Got these Pilgrim Monkey (猴行者) magnets in the mail—based on a stone relief from the 4th level of the western pagoda at Kaiyuan Temple, Quanzhou. Said to be the prototype for Sun Wukong, the Monkey King in Journey to the West. Never been there, but thrilled to own a piece of it!

I want to finish my vlog about Himiko. I visited her so-called grave during my recent trip to Kansai, but I’m not very confident, as I’m not Japanese and base my knowledge of her mainly on Chinese records.

When I visited the Tale of Genji Museum in Uji, Kyoto, for the second time, I looked up why the capital was moved from Nara to Kyoto. I learned that the move was partly to break away from the sphere of Chinese influence. By the way, the museum has improved a lot compared to a decade ago.
