5 - Arsenal have scored 5+ goals in five away games in all competitions in 2024, a joint-record by an English top-flight team in a single calendar year, along with Sunderland in 1892 and Manchester City in 1937. Relentless.

Merino was really good yesterday btw. Very comfortable in receiving inside the block, courageous with his passing in high areas, albeit not all of them coming off + his defensive work was top. Won plenty of second balls. Stock rising.

It’s Timber and Calafiori time, health willing. Here was my look at how the new Arsenal full-backs change how Arsenal play: third man runs, jail-break carries, double inversion, overlaps, underlaps, aerials, 1v1s, and more.
The Arsenal full-back revolution (and other tales)
The tactical impact of Calafiori and Timber. Plus: Don't forget about White; Merino and the evolution of the left side; what Ødegaard's re-entry looks like; the upcoming slate; and a lot more

My last newsletter: a huge (8,000+ word) tour through 14 topics currently facing Arsenal, and what can be done about them — including deep manipulation, central dribbling, shot selection, Nwaneri, Merino, and more. From before Chelsea, but still stands:

NEW: Arsenal have a lot of hard games behind them and Martin Ødegaard back, here's a look at all that, issues of late, some optimism and the need to now go on a big run: p1r.es/4fTs56r

For @arseblog.com
Now or never: Odegaard's return must propel Arsenal's season
The last thing a team chasing the title wants is to lose a key midfielder. A missing key defender can often be covered by his team-mates and collective organisation, playing without a star forward mea...

GM11 needs a platform a la Xhaka that he lost.

We hope Merino is "it"

So far it is premature to say since he is still familiarizing with the system
My take on Martinelli: he needs to play better. Saying a player needs to play better isn’t the same as not rating them. But he’s sort of stagnated. GM11 isn’t a much different player than GM35. tbf, Saka’s meteoric rise has probably distorted our understanding of how a young player should develop

Trixistain is my personal fav, but Campos may have the most pedigree out of the list
Who do you think is best suited to replace Edu?
1. Olabe
2. Campos
3. Gilberto Silva
