I like books, music and mutual aid.
Yeah. Ours is more for dress up and is also a good remind that exorbitant wealth and fancy costumes won’t keep some people from being incredibly unhappy.

If we just keep doing the stuff that doesn’t work a little bit longer, it will suddenly keep not working and we’ll all be surprised!

Putting the bat in bats$&t crazy. The depressing thing is how many people will eat this crap up. Meanwhile, I’m a Toronto dad in good standing and my baseball bat stays with the other sports gear because we don’t live in the movies.

Good luck!

Nice! I got the Helwig book today at Another Story. Always hoped she’d do another novel after Girls Fall Down but this book looks really good.

His latest book - Dangerous Memory - is pretty great, too. It paints a great portrait of Toronto in the 80s while highlighting the various lessons that can be applied to the current day. Hope it earns him a buck or more but writing’s a tough gig.

They’re great shirts.

Sadly, I’m not surprised unionization hasn’t come up. You work a job where everyone is so spread out but you’re right. It’s time to take the mystery and uncertainty out of things. As a content consumer, I’d feel better knowing creators aren’t getting screwed making the content I watch.

We have that up here in Canada, too. The conservatives all claim the Liberal party is just shy of Marxism when the reality is the party has always been just right of centre at best and these are not the best times. And their natural inclination is to slide right not left.

This one hurt my wife. Joann’s was one of her favourite reasons to cross the border and go shopping in Buffalo.

I’ve actually been to a Dollarama where one cashier ran too cash registers so she could start scanning items on one while the customer was paying on the other. Totally ridiculous but she was actually quite good at it.

He might not be running but a strong showing by him could possibly improve things for the party by making the argument that the Libs are the party to weather this storm. Not saying it’s realistic but it’s a possibility.

Was never Catholic but went to Catholic high school and the one course I took on social justice has stuck with me all these years. Crazy how an organization with so much wrong about it could still have people doing so much good. Dorothy Day also comes to mind.

Good luck with that. Gen X dad to a 3 and a 6 year old. They only sleep in on school/work days when you want them to get going. Come Saturday, they’re up and raring to go well before 7. This wasn’t in the brochure…

Yup. And we’re finding out anyone who paid a penny for their thoughts got ripped off. ;-)

So little these days is as cool as it sounds. Remember when evil geniuses used to sound cool. Now it’s all old people in government throttling speech and people like Musk, who really really wants people to think he’s funny and cool but fails so hard.

Yup. Cory Doctorow calls it the enshitification of the internet. Much like capitalism in general, there has been a move away from innovation towards rent taking. Rather than make things better, the monopolies/oligopolies focus on building walls and taking rents for increasingly crappy content.

Yikes! Hope they managed to get things back under control, Rev.

What the heck are you even trying to say? If that weirdo word salad is your best justification for banning books, maybe you should sit this one out.

I have a co coworker who bought four tickets for a Toronto show at face value. Kept 2. Sold 2 and went mountain climbing in Japan with the money. Totally insane.

I used to follow a TikTok account of a crane operator in Vancouver, B.C. I might not totally share your wife’s love of them but cranes are pretty cool.
