That's more the CIA's game. Our military's thing is destroying impoverished nations and then spending decades wandering around in the rubble trying to convince our victims that we're the good guys.

You're right. It's a handshake agreement between the people and the those in power with a threat of violence on both sides. Both the people and the powerful have failed to uphold their end of the deal but only one is following through on their implied threats.

The military is a defensive bulwark and offensive power projection apparatus. If you want the military toppling governments you don't agree with, I think you'll find involving them in politics is a grave mistake. Militaries tend to favor conservatism and whoever gives them the most stuff.

I'm not saying that we just sit on our asses, I'm just saying that it's folly to expect the military to save us. We have the second amendment for precisely this situation. If people are fearful of a tyrannical gov, they should be arming themselves, learning fieldcraft, and organizing.

If we, as a nation, think this government is tyrannical, it is OUR responsibility to tear them out of their offices and restore democracy. The military is restricted by the constitution and is highly apolitical intentionally. Without this, we likely would have seen this democracy fall long ago.

Politics in a democracy require that everyone agrees that there are rules, but we've spent decades eroding these institutions and norms to the point where we can have a dictatorship rubber stamped into existence.

Unfortunately, yes. SCOTUS are the interpreters of the constitution. We're venturing into uncharted territory here, our founders never anticipated a decades long corruption of institution to the point where checks and balances cease to matter.

They can't just overthrow the gov because they're hurting people. Every government does that. As upsetting as it is, it's not the military's responsibility to step in yet. It's ours and our elected representatives.

Crossing the Rubicon at this point would be openly defying rulings from the supreme court, issuing obviously illegal orders (like firing on protestors or having the military arrest people without legal basis). Basically, worst case scenario shit.
October 1, 2025 at 6:46 PM
One can not sanctify a sin. You can't throw out the constitution in order to prevent something that hasn't happened. Do I think that those in power have a moral obligation to do something, absolutely. Would they have the backing of the laws they have sworn to uphold, no.

I guess someone didn't want to be a defendant at Nuremburg 2. Not sure how I feel about the principled resignation at this point. I agree that staying to mitigate helps legitimize them, but resigning right before things get ugly also allows yes-men to be in position come crunch time.
October 1, 2025 at 6:38 PM
At this point, any officer that takes up arms against the gov would still be committing treason. Despite all of the shit they've done, little has been ruled unconstitutional. When it has, they've backed down. Until they truly cross the rubicon, even those that oppose them are bound by their oath.

Yeah, I never encountered it (2009-2013), but I wouldn't be surprised to find out it's being forced on them now. I know USMA is pretty "white boy suburban Republican" as an organization, but I'm very concerned about how the culture is going further radicalize during this admin.

A lot of enlisted support these goons, but it's ultimately the officer class prevents regime change. If they drink the Kool Aid in enough numbers, we're toast. Also, this shit is complete trash and I would have been embarrassed to have to make this oath. It's basically the pledge of allegiance.

As a West Pointer, this is both insulting and chilling. Gotta crank up the indoctrination of officers if you want to maintain control when you officially dismantle the government. No mention of the constitution, explicit mention of God, and an oath to the "values that make this nation great."

Haha, thanks! Really leaning into the horror aspect of the Gothic Horror setting for the monsters. I think it amps up the contrast with the heroes.

Thanks Phil! It's just the bottom side of some sheet moss! Hope all is well back in old blighty.

Coming from you, that means a lot! Thank you! I really enjoyed doing the red and I feel like these two are some of my best work.

You do indeed!
