It took me a while to come and like the Phantom Mech idea as a relative newcomer to the series, but reflecting on Battletech and its relationship with the mecha genre as a whole, I really came to appreciate this softer, superstitious side that it represents in this setting filled with tall tales.

I watch a lot of speedruns and pay some attention to the XIV WF race. Could it not be possible to implement two categories similar to how speedruns have them - a 'vanilla' World First category and a 'tool-assisted' World First category? I think that might be able to appease both sides.
