Ulviyya was arrested as part of the ongoing bogus criminal investigation launched against Meydan TV. Their entire newsroom is behind bars (since December 2024). Over the following months authorities also arrested journalists Fatima Movlamli, Shamshad Agha, Nurlan Libre as part of the investigation.

Journalism is not a crime! Our only crime is our conviction!

Against the political will that wants to plunge Azerbaijan into silence, our voices will always break through the quiet they seek to impose. This may be the last text I write in freedom. But I believe that a just voice can never be silenced.

And I have done my utmost to shed light on the injustices faced by people regardless of their religious, ethnic, or political identity, gender or sexual orientation, or social status. Like my colleagues who are now imprisoned, I will continue this work.

It is well known to all that the Azerbaijani state has lost all tolerance for independent media.

As a result of this intolerance, more than 20 journalists are currently behind bars, and I have now become one of them. Since 2016, through my work, I have always tried to uphold professional ethics.
