I looked out the window and turned on the exterior lights.

A skunk was caught briefly in the floodlight beam before it trundled away. (4/4)

We discussed this. It must be something big, we decided. A cougar? A bear? Only an apex predator would be so unconcerned with drawing attention to itself. (3/4)

We'd retired for the night and were playing cards inside the van. The campground is at the bottom of a deep valley and the darkness outside was impenetrable. Then we heard something crashing around in the brush. (2/4)

In hindsight I guess it's not surprising that she ended up at "I am the sole arbitrator of who is being trans correctly."

I realize in hindsight that I grew up during kind of the peak era for magazines, especially travel and hobbyist magazines.

What's fascinating about Brianna is the way she didn't just burn bridges, she called in precision strikes on every one of them. And then she wondered why she ended up isolated.

As a kid who didn't get to travel outside my home state, I have fond memories of National Geographic as a window into a wider world.

One of the highlights of visiting Dana the first time was getting to visit the St. Helens blast zone and see it in person.

Well, yes. McBride steadfastly avoids making it all about her, whereas everything Brianna does is self-centered.

The issue from when Mt. St. Helens erupted is one of my favorites. Some really stunning photography in that one.

At times she's had some good general ideas. Like, yes, I think it would be good to highlight more normal-seeming trans people to make being trans seem ordinary and boring. That would be smart. But her execution of everything is terrible, and then her definition of "normal" kept shrinking.

I knew she was trans as far back as when she was in the news for being attacked by GGers, but I don't remember how I learned that. She was definitely kind of stealth for a while.

What's wild about her is she clearly desperately wants to be in politics, but just as clearly is super bad at it.

You thought it'd be easier to convince Trump to give you those things than Harris? Well, you got the outcome you wanted, so good luck with that.

While we're at it, here's another one. Mock reality show following the early Earth Cargo Service. Star Trek meets Ice Road Truckers. You could throw in some salvage action, too, a la "Highway Thru Hell."

That's deep cold for sure. I've experienced -40 wind chill but not -40 true.
January 25, 2026 at 4:00 AM
Wow. Is that the still-air temperature, or the windchill? Either way it's frigid.
January 25, 2026 at 3:55 AM
Tom Hulce's nervous laugh in that is diabolical. So delightfully punchable.
January 25, 2026 at 3:45 AM
There's no contradiction there. Believing that an outcome is unlikely does not preclude talking about how dire it'd be if it happened.
January 25, 2026 at 2:54 AM
It's the classic conspiracy theory move of "everyone I don't like is secretly teaming up against me." It's the same move the "corporate uniparty" people use to convince themselves that Trump and Chuck Schumer are plotting together.

Identity issues in both the psychological and legal senses. Imagining having to file a sheaf of legal name change orders every time you want to prove anything based on your birth certificate. Once is enough of a hassle.

All the people who called her a turncoat and a traitor when she first joined Congress. Not going to call them out by name here because I don't want to encourage sealioning.
