Wine & Cats with a touch of nonsense
Lonely Planet called our boutique store, La Cava del Barrio, the best wine shop in Santiago (Chile)
Ah! And very cool to see Goldfrapp there in your Top 10 list. I always feel that I should like BLACK CHERRY more than I do, but I *love* SUPERNATURE. Saw them when they toured for that one. It was a very small venue and it was an AMAZING show with so much energy. So that album is close to my heart.

Going thru the Master List for '01 when Kent posted it, I noticed that the year is a big gap in my musical knowledge because there were shockingly few that I was familiar with.

SIMPLE THINGS was one of the exceptions; I've had it since it came out. it's definitely Top 10 for me, maybe Top 5.

Reading your blog has been an essential part of enjoying my first "Best" Tourney and I'm sure I'm not the only one who hopes you keep going! Bravo to the two of you, Nanette and @putnam39.bsky.social

(I mean, take a break now, you've earned it but please keep going for the '01 Tourney, I mean).
November 26, 2025 at 4:43 PM
I'm just wish-casting, because I know that Kent doesn't assign them. But ... do you mean that you don't think that there are many Zero 7 fans?
November 26, 2025 at 4:29 PM
Gee, I got that wrong... but I'm confused...

So, PAUL's BOUTIQUE gets to be your profile pic for two straight days...

Bravo, my friend, bravo, that is a LOVELY collection and I have spent days on end on those albums alone.
November 26, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Wow, I have never seen that before. I just checked on Spotify on my end and can't find it. A cursory search in Youtube finds me nothing, but I'll try later to see if I can find somewhere to listen to that.
November 26, 2025 at 3:38 PM
Okay, you've got me beat here, because I didn't realize that there was more than one version of Tanto Tiempo Remixes. I'll have to search Spotify now.

(PLUS now I have to put on the Felix Da Housecat version of Nina's Sinnerman since you have mentioned Verve... )
November 26, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Glad to hear that she has fans here! I Hope the Electorate vibes to Tanto Tiempo for '01.

I think I like '05's REMIXED even more, since the "Aganju Latin Project Mix" is among my favorite remixes of all time.

Having said that, Zero 7's SIMPLE THINGS *needs* a high seed in '01!
November 26, 2025 at 3:06 PM
It's a remix album and I don't know if those "fly" for the tournament, but Bebel Gilberto's TANTO TIEMPO REMIXES is already on the Master List and it's worth the while if you're not familiar with it.

Judging by the love so many here hold for Technique I know I’m in a minority here but — I like GET READY more and listen to it quite a bit. Not sure yet where I’d suggest seeding but it but it definitely has its merits.

In my alternative universe, DISTINGRATION passed on to the final round and won it all; for me, there simply is no better album from '89.

But since we live in this universe, I'm hoping that the Electorate gives The Cure the bronce.
the man is wearing a gray jacket and a white shirt and has his hands folded in front of him .
Alt: Robert Smith with his hair all big and frayed and jet black, making a cute little gesture with his hands, which I guess you could interpret as him saying "please" with gothic charm, or signifying to someone that he wants to go do sleep. For the purposes of this Alt Text, let's assume it's the former and not the latter.

A surprising discovery for me has been learning how important these two albums are to so many of you.

I was 17 in '89. Neither seemed all that interesting to me at the time and I'm afraid that after all these rounds, they haven't captivated me either. Clearly it's a "me thing".

I had forgot how good an album JUJU is, Rena. And listening to it, I remember how much fun it was to dance to MONITOR.

[Cracks knuckles]

Those "wiser heads" are gonna hear from me if they are going to diss one of the greatest tracks of the 80's....
a man in a suit and tie is standing in front of a refrigerator with his hands crossed .
Alt: Dwight from the office seems to be cracking his knuckles here as he stands (dorkily) in the kitchen...

I haven't listened to Siouxsie's JUJU in a loooong time (aside from Spellbound, specifically); I'll have to address that.

But here's the thing: I never *stopped* listening to FLOODLAND.

I'd say there are 3 ludicrously fun tracks on it, so, which one are you referring too, Tom?

DISINTIGRATION, for the win!
As for the Pixies, sorry, but....
a man in a military uniform is smiling and says lighten up francis .
Alt: Scene from the classic movie STRIPES where the drill sargeant tells a high-strung recruit named Francis that he has to chill out...

Wow, the one on the right is a really chunky boy...
November 21, 2025 at 11:54 AM
I am stunned to learn that they did a cover of The Cure's LOVESONG...

(So they have something more "tangible" linking them to the '89 Tourney afterall...)
November 21, 2025 at 1:22 AM
Ahh, they have a an album on the Master List for '01... I had never heard of them.

Thanks, Mark!
November 20, 2025 at 10:04 PM
Sorry, but someone will have to explain this one to me...
November 20, 2025 at 8:11 PM
You two consistently bring a smile to my face with your blogging. It's so impressive that you've managed to do this *every single bracket contest*.

Nanette, I, too, feel that '01 Fugazi screams (slightly) less than '89 Fugazi but that's a subject for the next tournament.
