LA Confidential is my pick. I saw it in bíó (Icelandic for the cinema) in Reykjavik in 1997. I remeber it being a perfect neo-noir crime film. The story was great and the acting sublime. I loved the skilful directing, expert cinematography and evocative score. A superb movie evening for the weekend
