Train Conductor with Southeastern. Keeping the network moving from London to the coast. Timetables, trackside sunrises, and a front-row seat to the South East in motion. Oh and the occasional cat pic. RMT member and workers rights appreciator.
My cats mood today. Guessing that's a no to going outside?

Well gotta be honest, a 4 coach train down the Medway valley (usually 3), on a weekend, in the sun feels like someone enabled challenge mode for my duty today! Ah well, onwards.....

Morning mist rolls thick across the Kent fields. Somewhere beyond this fog, the day waits to unfold. Humidity’s high after last night's storm and visibility’s low, but the rails still hum their steady song.
It's still early so it's still eery as we roll by on empty stock to Maidstone.

Sad news this morning and whilst I don't know the particulars, it's worth reminding people that messing with level crossings is a daft idea that will get you killed because whatever you think you know, something weighing a great many tons will prove you wrong in a way your family should never see!

Good morning Bluesky!
And a lovely morning it is in the capital today
May 13, 2025 at 6:36 AM
Well I'm certainly having to be on my best behaviour working this tonight!
Lots of peeps with cameras out tonight. Thankfully they're likely taking far better pictures and videos than I ever could.

Good evening folks!

For the benefit of those that didn't look up from their phone, ta-da:

"Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads!"

This morning at Victoria, the Sussex Belle rolled in, sun catching the steam just right. For a moment, the station fell quiet apart from the chugging diesel at the other end —modern schedules paused for a bit of living history. Days like this remind me why the rails still feel like magic.

Good morning Bluesky! My phone has brightened this substantially but it's truly a beautiful sunrise this morning. It may have no phone signal for 10 mins and 4 long tunnels but this section of track between Folkestone and Dover offers some incredible views. Righto, off to London shortly!

Good morning folks.
And a beautiful morning it is too. Lovely view today from the iron road on the way in towards London from mid Kent.
Day 9 of 10 and then into my spring leave. I reckon it's time to break the shorts out upon my return ☀️

Here, yet another cold but stunning morning. This time from a 12 coach into Cannon St station.
In other news, offered a role coaching trainee conductors and giving them the confidence to grow their career

After a cold start, what a beautiful day it's become!

Feeling cute, might delete later...

I don't normally wade into nonsense politics but 'Gulf of America' had me actually chucking.

Whelp, I'm not superstitious but I've just had someone say the Q word. You NEVER say the Q word!

Although, why do you think I'm in this part of the train 🤣

Absolute force of nature announcing his retirement for later this year. Bravo Mick Lynch, you've been an incredible figurehead for a lot of people, deftly handing out facts left and right throughout.

Day 4, same duty as yesterday but this time I'll try not to double post. Weirdly my phone thinks I'm in France.
Anyway, a beautiful morning, still a little fresh but I'll take that over rain/sleet any day.
Lots of 375/377 work today but I live on this 375 for the next 4 hours!
January 9, 2025 at 9:08 AM
Morning folks, day 3 of a nearly 50 hour week.
I think today is as close to a normal day as you get in the railway at roughly 8am to 6pm!
Can't complain as I'm back on leave for next week.
In other news, it seems pretty desperate to snow today, and I suspect if it falls it'll settle this time.

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan.......

I think this is probably as white as you'd want it where at least everything keeps moving. I know up country they've been a bit battered by bad weather lately but I'm enjoying the freshness.
January 7, 2025 at 8:07 AM
Good morning Bluesky. After what has nearly been a month of holiday and a brief social media hiatus I'm back to posting.

Extremely busy train this morning, feels like a real return to normality for a lot of people but that said, lots of mornings and smiles so people have not lost their manners!
January 6, 2025 at 8:34 AM
Good morning Bluesky.

This is not the sunrise you're looking for!

Not today, someone said, so it's cloudy and miserable so far but I remain hopeful that the coat can stay in the cab. I'm mostly on shuttles today. 4 coaches, 38 min journey, back and forth and back and forth and .......

Cold mornings like this really can look very pretty and quite often everyone on my train will miss it as they're too busy looking at screens to look around
November 28, 2024 at 8:20 AM
IYKYK but 12 cars of 375/9 feels like a cruel joke
November 28, 2024 at 7:57 AM
So yeah, the green cat toy is up. I'm really hesitant now to put stuff lower down
