I would say Benning wrecked this team by not collecting more assets while they were bad. Though PA/JR continued the trend by trying to go for it asap rather than building when they first came in. Also horvat over miller was likely the main mistake...or not trading both and being patient. #Aqualoonie

Yah getting an elite, top 2 defenseman in the game, for players that project at best 2nd line or 2nd pair and 1 first. Yah that's a L. Give me a break didn't even loose an elite piece in this trade. Only thing good about this trade is all pieces are actually young.

It's basically a 2nd to clear cap space as both have been not good this season, and I guess maybe upgrade in net if you squint... also I think retaining not as important since full cap hit counts for setting the playoff roster. They still might have gotten worse from this trade which is funny.

They shouldn't let this management group make the trade. They failed at keeping him, they have to go and the new guy coming in gets to do the any deals, even if that means waiting till the off-season. Rutherford isn't long for this org anyways. But it's the Canucks and they love a bad process.

given how they are doing and his own statements about the talent level and that this season matters for if he stays, and the coaching drop off (Toc was Quinns best coach and Footes system is weak). Nucks have given no reason for him to stay. It sucks, no way should this mngmt be allowed to trade him

Unfortunately I don't think pulling the plug on this era will even matter. As long as Aqua has his fingers in there, they will be making short cuts and always trying to be competitive. Just completely shitty. It's very trying being a fan of a team with no plan on how to become a cup champ.

Aren't we really happy already that the trade didn't happen. No Raty or Cootes. Okay it would have been better this year with Rossi but likely not enough to be a playoff team with this coach and lack of structure in the d zone.

This management group may have a bit of a blind spot for character issues, miller over Bo, etc but the previous group weren't any better with that. At least the recent draft picks seem high character kids.

Just not very excited for some 21 year old prospect or whatever other crap they get in a trade, since it sure doesn't sound like they have much interest in draft picks. Prove me wrong Canucks but damn being a fan of this team is hard. Never any plan, always trying to take shortcuts

We don't know what Hughes really wants, but it's the Canucks that haven't earned his loyalty. After 8 years of this (only 1 good season) with no obvious way for the team to be a contender. If the team was good I bet he would want to stay and win here.

I do like most of the core, not sure about Foote. I think there could be a quicker path to being good with some draft luck and patience on the win now moves for this season and next. Now if quinn leaves that's a different story.

Don't we suck now and haven't we sucked for most of the last decade? How bout they try something different cuz this is tiring. I'm not saying tank or trade everyone, but trading UFA's is smart when you suck.

You do realize that the Oilers, Avs, and Panthers all sucked and built the core of their teams through rebuilding. Vancouver hasn't and has led to similar situation to wings or Buffalo. We have made the playoffs twice in 10 years and nowhere near cup contenders that whole time.

I agree, you have to be honest with yourself as management for how far away this team is from contention. Probably 3 key pieces. Can't fall in love and sign players at their high point. At least when you're not a top 10 team. Saying that it's the Nucks so they will likely give him the 5*5

Kids, lol GMs do it's the reality. Last I checked I was old enough to enjoy both game 7runs.... Kids love the players too, get super attached. Me I love heart and souls guys and miss em when they are gone, but I love a good team more. Just make moves so we can be a good team. Sometimes mean you sell

I think you have to look longer term with Sherwood. He's 30, and this team needs more elite pieces to be a contender. Love him but he's a must trade guy when you're not in the cup window. Nucks need more draft picks can't keep making the least amount of picks and being mid...well bad really.

You just sell the ufa's at the deadline. I wouldn't have done much differently except I would have moved suter at the deadline and not traded for Peterson. But I don't rewrite history. Just going forward. Ok we don't have the horses this year, sell Sherwood, sell forbort, sell Kane. Keep the picks

I don't need a tank, I just need the management to be smart. When it's not your year sell at the deadline, build up assets, so when it is a good year you can actually go for it. The Blues have done this well.

I think they are already sunk. Maybe can go on a run and get back in the race but for what, to go out if round 1 and not make forward thinking moves. Being out of it likely will do more good for the future than hanging around the race. Already have to play at a 104 pt pace to make 96pts.

I have seen enough with this management group. The stay the course dialogue with no way forward to add elite pieces is just the Benning plan again. (Also if truthful that they have full control over the direction, then they are just incompetent and take us fans for idiots.)

You just have him make the team, no waivers required then. Issue is carrying 3 goalies, can be done but hard for everyone to get enough playing time.
