...also there is every chance that such companies could displace companies that actually do employment people. Without adeguate taxation, real companies that pay taxes and salaries cannot compete.

Just look at Amazon's effect on retail if you want a case study.

Innovation isn't as helpful as it sounds if it doesn't create employment at scale. The current generation of tech unicorns have high corporate earning per employee, AI productivity could grow that exponentially. So they may boost GDP but without creating wealth for many people

I moved to Scandinavia, expecting to pay more in tax but feel the benefit in terms of better public services.

I was half right. Public services are better. Weirdly, thanks to the way the British tax system works, I pay less tax here.

It is. The cost of living is sky high, but so is the standard of living.

So you're saying they tax wealth, not work?

Rates are progressive and vary by Canton which does make it hard to compare.

How about the nightmare scenario; a country with very high rates of personal taxation and wealth taxes? That must be a recipe for disaster, right?

Some bad, bad people.

Those Swiss are some crazy leftist commies. Their unemployment benefits are so generous, no wonder they all sit at home watching flat screen tvs and vaping

Yeah Wealth Taxes are the sole preserve of looney left basket case economies like (checks notes) Switzerland 🇨🇭

@Rory-stewart.bsky.social seemed very discomfited by Gary.

Perhaps he should re-read Piketty?

"Sacred quest" is another term to consider on this one.

If those Euromillions numbers come up, we're going.

I also propose that we vigourously argue that, if you pronunce the "H" in "Hotel" and "Hospital", you must also pronunce it in "Herb" (unless you're a rastafarian)

"With a la mode" is the perfect way to make the point.

Now must find a restaurant with "pie a la mode" and a sandwich "with au jus" so i can go and have this argument live. Maybe all the restaurants that have both.

The war is not lost, mon ami. ZE WAR IS JUST BEGINNING!

VIVE LA FRANCE!
