Whats to stop the WaPo reporters to set up a new/competing publication, in line with original editorial policy etc?

Can't work out why journalists/editors who are being laid off (applies to CBS and others) just leave and organise replacement.

Starmer broke the left 24 coalition, not AB (per previous). AB isn't blameless but the NEC/Starmer decision means they will have to own it.
January 26, 2026 at 10:21 PM
See this poll on voters which lent their vote to Labour in 24. Excludes Tory and Reform - no way Starmer's coming back from that and rebuilding the 24 coalition. There's a risk of national exposure for AB but at least he has a chance, Starmer had none.
January 26, 2026 at 10:16 PM
We'll know soon enough if it was wrong, end Feb Part 1 and early May Pt2
January 26, 2026 at 8:51 PM
So if (when) a 'perfectly qualified' candidate loses vs what opinion polls clearly show would happen with AB, what then?

And what of the effect elsewhere in the NW for May, do you think this will make voters more/less likely to vote Labour?

Polls show AB is 'Heineken' whether you like him or not
January 26, 2026 at 8:48 PM
There's having a say, and having the Final say. Labour will lose a bye election they could have won. The risk to the MCR mayorlty was manageable (due in large part due to AB).

Would have respected the local view, shored up Labour politically du
(electoral success) and mitigated the drift to Reform
January 26, 2026 at 8:06 PM
People of MCR will be paying for the consequences of both for a number of years. Why they should have the final say. Local democracy.
January 26, 2026 at 7:42 PM
Because Andy is who the Gorton CLP and greater MCR people want? Anybody bothered to ask them?
January 26, 2026 at 6:55 PM
Not sure an MP from Buckingham is what's needed in MCR at the moment ....
January 26, 2026 at 11:08 AM
Maybe the Gorton CLP should decide who represents them?
January 25, 2026 at 2:35 PM
This was put in the rulebook by Starmerites to prevent Andy from standing.

Dont think blocking northerners to choose who they should represent them will work out well for the NEC
January 25, 2026 at 2:18 PM
Who is a better judge on what should happen with MCR Mayor and Gorton MP selection? The reaction to it being imposed by NEC will soon become clear.
January 25, 2026 at 2:09 PM
He'd stem the bleeding to Reform and Greens in the north. Who would want to stand now for Labour?

Gorton, Wales, Scotland and half the Labour councils will be gone by May.
January 25, 2026 at 12:54 PM
Very good. The simple explanations are the best - Andy is the most effective political communicator the non-far right has, so is the best chance of defeating them. Starmer just isn't as good, polls show this.

Trump and Farage's rise is down to political communication (as was Tony Blair's).
January 24, 2026 at 8:43 AM
Wonder if the muted UK reaction is due to an aversion to thinking we're a middle nation? A few nukes and colonial history, surely we should be at the table and not on the menu?
January 21, 2026 at 6:35 AM
The US admin should watch Sisu yo get a flavour of Scandinavian Arctic warfare
January 14, 2026 at 7:28 PM
Just call them racists (if they bend that way) or fantasists (if the they exist in LibDem/Green/Plaid/SNP(. Sums up how im feeling.
December 18, 2025 at 10:10 PM
You can see this with the latest ploy on foreign influence, by Reed - forward looking only i.e. Reform and future interference , not Russian interference in Brexit. The intellectual paucity is obvious. Can't wait until May
December 18, 2025 at 9:59 PM
Do you think the political elites in UK/EU accept this analysis and ignore it? Struck by FSB intimidation of predominantly Belgians (Euroclear) which was predictable from space?

Think upsetting Far right/far left equallymeans we're broadly on right courrse?
December 18, 2025 at 9:10 PM
This is the issue - greater obligations for those that come here (foreigners) vs those already here. Beggers belief that Labour can't see the problem with this.
October 21, 2025 at 12:00 PM
There's massive capital over-allocation. Reporting reqs won't save them from a big devaluation.
October 3, 2025 at 6:40 PM
Very good Ian. Politics of Strategy loses direction/value without politics of morals. Heart before head every time.

Telling that Trump is successful because he knows this (how you feel vs how things empirically are)
October 3, 2025 at 6:12 PM
Think most of ABs support would fold under AR (his mate) in a real leadership challenge
