We recorded at Litho in Seattle over three days. Each song was probably 2 takes, amps all in one iso booth and Camae in the other. We took “Scene 3” first, and as soon as Camae’s vocal started all my hairs stood up. Goddamn.

Labels for Switchcraft patchbays, in their plastic sleeves Printed on 2 sheets on color laser, ends cut off to get the cutting marks right at the end of the paper, taped together for alignment, cut at the blank center, then taped again, cut very carefully with a roller cutter. Looks good, takes too long

Years ago my friend Ben Adrian and I took apart my favorite MXR Distortion+ to see why it sounded so good. True story: It was broken. This created asymmetric clipping and a lot more volume than a normal D+. Ben built a short run of "KWB" pedals with the break built in and a few changes of his own, and #001 has been on my board since. Then Ben got a day job designing guitar gear, so he stopped building pedals. People started asking me where to get a KWB, and here we are. I tweaked Ben's circuit, removed the CLIP knob (which adjusted the amount of brokenness- fuck that! All broke all the time) and added a DEPTH switch. Flip the page for details. This pedal doesn't have a ton of gain but it's very loud. It works equally well as an overdrive or a nasty boost. It's good for pummeling an edge-of-breakup tube amp, and it stacks well with some pedals, which is how I use it for bulldozer mode. Again thanks, and let me know how the pedal works for you. Scott Evans, Oct 2020 (updated Feb 2025) ---- POWER 9VDC Boss-style (center negative, 2.1mm). This pedal draws a minuscule 3mA. There is no battery snap. CONTROLS GAIN is useful at low settings for a little bite, or up around 3:00 for gnarl. Like the original D+, the last 10% of the gain range isn't great. This pedal gets much louder as you increase gain, so adjust VOLUME and GAIN together to keep your output level consistent. DEPTH adds a gallon of low end at higher gain settings (which otherwise thin out). It's cool on bass or very chimey guitars, or for absurd doooom. NOTE: The toggle goes UP for deep mode. WARRANTY If something fails I'll fix it and pay for return shipping, as long as I'm able. FRIENDS I love music but what I really love is making things with friends. It is an incredible life gift. I'm grateful to Kurt Ballou, Ben Adrian, John Snyder, Brad Macomber, and Andrew Wiggins, who have all been very patient teachers.

The songs flow together so we sequenced the entire album in one Pro Tools session and mixed as one big thing. We did this on the first MoL LP too. I love working this way. I love these folks and loved making this record.

So anyway we showed up, marvelled at fjords etc, figured out which drums and amps were right, set up and got sounds, then on day 2 the band knocked out 16 songs(!) of basic tracks.

I’M MOVING STUDIOS. Next month Antisleep relocates to the west room of Jack Shirley’s Atomic Garden in east Oakland. Fuck yes!

Jack and I will operate separate private studios, but we’ll share mic closets/amps/vegan ice cream. I am thrilled. Genuinely a dream come true.

I’m halfway through “The Color Of Law”, which is about racial segregation as US govt housing policy. The writing is dry and academic, but every page or two I have to stop and close my eyes. It is physically painful to see all this laid out. Strong recommend.
