Master of disguise! We spotted four of these Day Octopuses (Octopus cyanea) at the Lakeside snorkeling site, Ningaloo, WA. Nice to see some healthy-looking bommies too.

Able this last few days to see some near-shore parts of Ningaloo reef. It’s not a reef I know well, but Coral Bay seems heavily affected by recent events - lots of dead coral. More signs of life up the coast near Exmouth.

Lots of ecological interest in Shark Bay. These Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins are smaller than common bottlenoses. We watched them hunting fish in the shallows at Monkey Mia.

Still in the drylands… shingleback threat display! They are big chonky fellas but with few other defences.

Ancient sandstone in the cradle of the Murchison River. Layers; and fossil arthropod diggings.

The colours of Kalbirri National Park, WA. The Murchison River has carved this gorge over 150 Million Years. Chudditch (quoll) habitat!

Hutt Lagoon, WA - a peaceful spot that I saw for the first time today. The pink is from algae in the water, not from the sky 😎

Winter thoughts, Banjo style. I wonder sometimes if he truly reflects on things.

Our dog has developed extreme concern for my family when they go swimming… keeping a careful eye on them and occasionally barking nervously. This incidentally is a typical Perth beach (lucky us!).

Xi’an is the home of the terracotta warriors and tomb of Emperor Qin. What people often don’t notice on photos of the warriors is the detail. They also made sculptures of birds, and the bird keeper!

Spot the cat… helping to tidy up. Probably not the wisest place to sleep 🥞🙀

Elephant Rocks, WA. A beautiful spot with unreal colours. From this vantage point we could see little sandy-coloured rays swimming around. #wildoz

We found this western Rosella in transitional plumage by the road near Walpole. He seemed to have been hit by a car but was still alive. Sadly that wing looked unfixable. Drive carefully near wildlife, folks 🥲

Inside a fire-hollowed but still living Red Tingle tree in southern WA. These endemic gum trees (Eucalyptus jacksonii) can reach >50 m tall and live >70 yrs.

Just got sent this picture by my Mum, who lives in Harare. The dirt on its head is apparently because it has just buried its eggs in their back garden. I think it’s a Graceful Chameleon, so about 20-30 cm long (including tail).

This Perth/WA bottlebrush (Melaleuca lateritia) has the charming common name of ‘Robin Readbreast bush’ #Wildoz

Large old trees, and the habitats they provide, are under threat globally. This nest box for cockatoos in Perth, at Bibra Lakes, is a good example of a small but tangible conservation action that can make a difference. #wildoz

The semi-mythical 6-legged kangaroo!

Sorting through some of our photos from QLD and came across this. No worries, guess we'll wait a bit until we clean the loo... a day or two later it hid inside a toilet roll that my one spider-phobic daughter happened to pick up. No harm done but I reckon they heard the scream in Canberra 😂 #wildoz

Some nicely presented advice about meeting the local fauna #rays at Hamelin Bay. None to be seen but I assume is a seasonal aggregation. #wildoz
