The symposium is free to attend and abstracts are free to submit, although there will be some social events and field excursions for which expenses will be collected locally in cash. Abstracts and registrations are still open!

Its more common in chalk stream areas (Hertfordshire where I'm based, and Yorkshire have the most chalk streams) but also can be gravel, which is more complicated.

Because you can't pump it out like river or surface water flooding. A colleague described it as "like trying to get rid of the water from an olympic swimming pool with a spoon" 😅

Its when a natural underground resevoir and the water table is at capacity and comes back up from the ground. Its because we had the downpours back in September and a wet winter (this is the 2nd year in a row now!). Groundwater flooding can stay around for months and there isn't an easy fix...
