The frac sand “props” open the fractures to allow the hydrocarbon molecules to flow into the cracks and then to the well. Fracking typically starts at the toe, or end of the horizontal leg, and works back to the vertical part of the well. The process is referred to as multi-stage hydraulic fracturing. Commonly it takes an average of 10 to 15 stages to ensure adequate coverage of the reservoir to maximize the recovery of the oil or gas it contains. The number of stages depends on the lateral length of the well. Completing the planned stages usually takes about 3 to 4 days.

Gas is so dangerous for so many reasons, from extraction to transmission to the end point of homes and businesses. This happened in a nearby town yesterday. It will NEVER cease to incense me that FD has to deal with this dangerous sh!t.

Firefighters confirmed an active gas leak with a significant vapor cloud extending from the damaged meter, accompanied by a loud roaring sound. Immediate evacuation of the affected area was initiated. A full first-alarm assignment was requested, bringing additional on-duty and off-duty personnel to the scene. Hanover Fire and Hanover Police Department worked jointly with Hanover Crossing Representatives to evacuate occupants and establish a secure hazard zone. This effort was complicated by the size of the parking area and the numerous access points throughout the shopping complex. Approximately 100 people were evacuated from multiple businesses, including Macy’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Eversource Gas arrived on scene approximately 35 minutes after the initial report and secured the leak, which was below the shutoff valve, roughly one hour after it began. National Grid also responded to assist with securing electrical service in the affected area. Following mitigation of the gas leak, firefighters conducted safety checks of nearby businesses, several of which required ventilation. All but four stores were permitted to reoccupy within one hour of the leak being secured. Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 6:45 p.m. Hanover Inspectional Services and Eversource remained on site to complete repairs to the damaged utilities.
