Xer.
Teaches communication at a state university.
Christian, but actually reads the Bible, so not fundamentalist.
Prefers no pronouns.
Don't tell me to calm down when the world's on fire.
My husband does that and it is SO UNNERVING.

Of particular note is the wordplay and his ability to rapid-fire jokes, a gift that's been honed since my husband and I first started watching him on LCS 15 years ago. Don't sleep on the difficulty level here: he does comedy on hard mode, spitting words better (and faster) than most rappers.

Emo Phillips was an absolute DELIGHT. He was impressed by my being in a Ph.D. program, complimented my shirt, and roasted my husband for looking like he'd enjoy UHF. 10/10, no notes. We should go see him again.

The smart one was the barbarian?!

Who *wants* a Q&A after a comedy show?! Okay, when I give a talk, I expect Q&A. I'm at an academic conference, people have research ideas, and we all thrive on that sort of thing. But it seems terribly wrong for people to say "I have heard your jokes. I HAVE QUESTIONS."
That feels deeply weird.

The Fresno couple didn't pay the $5 *either*, so this is NOT all your fault.

Threshold is my answer, too. Bonus points to Forever and My Own Worst Enemy (Severance before Severance), but if I get this power, I will take Threshold and deal with hate from Firefly fans. I'm surprised not to see them in the comments--I always used to see that at the top of this question.

Can't do both if the people reject the pseudo-capitalist economy.

Voight is openly asking for a legally held election to be overruled. His justification is *solely* because the result as he sees it is anti-capitalist. This needs to be analyzed and considered, because it's pointing to a fault line.

...but now those two things are in tension because the faux capitalism has hurt too many regular folks. So now we have to choose between them: is America's economy going to remain a crony capitalist economy, or is America's state going to remain a republic of sorts? (cont)

This should be in Wholesome Memes.

Eh. There are better reasons to criticize someone--especially THAT guy--than devotion to a hobby. Even a dumb hobby. It's outside, it's mildly social, it's mild exercise, it's skill building (feel free to criticize him for cheating!). There are worse things. We know there because he does those too.

It makes sense to me that happiness researchers aren't looking into how evil people (I'd define this as selfish, unbothered by harming others) can be happy. People go into it because they want to look at the positive side of psych. But I want to know the answer to this question. How are they happy?
November 9, 2025 at 5:09 PM
Milbank here tosses it casually into this sentence that stuck out for me: "It's not necessarily altruistic (evil people can have purpose) but often is." Evil people can be happy. Evil people can have purpose. They sleep fine, thumbs up the mirror, hug their kids, are loved by their dogs. (2/3)

If you are a robot, it's a *long* con.

Thanks for this, because I was starting to get indignant.

One was lost in the mail. Another went to a pharm where it wasn't in stock. I asked for a third and she was like "legally it's going to raise flags if I keep doing this." So yeah, no, they can't have my recalled Vyvanse. The rules around it are eye-rolling prohibitive for prescribers too. (2/2)
November 6, 2025 at 3:55 AM
That's not the issue. Note that different states have different requirements around schedule 2 drugs. In my state, the prescription has to go from the provider directly to the pharmacy without me touching it. My provider is great, but even she balked when I requested a *third* prescription. (1/2)

He's partially right. We *do* all blame him personally for the shutdown.
