Both strategies predicted broad decreases in leaf area in our model, while most climate models increased leaf area index (a per area leaf area metric) in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6). Something to reconcile with plenty of differences between all models.

Using a trait based plant physiological model that includes plant hydraulics (a mouthful for sure) we found that increased productivity (net primary productivity) and hydraulic stress (percent loss of conductance) were linked and max carbon usually went with increased stress.
