Well, perhaps competitions and quizzes produce highest viewing figures? And excitement and that feeling of rooting for your favourite (although the sob-back-stories can be tedious.) And please, Claudia Winkleman is not vacuous, she's a legend!

Absolutely LOVED it, seen it twice so far, the first showing spoilt by a huge gaggle of drunk women, talking and commenting loudly all the way through as if they were down the pub, and ignoring people around them asking them to shush ... 2nd showing much better (and I know I will go again!)
