getting back into gamemaker
🌙☁️☂️🌑🌊🦩☁️🦩🌊
sorry i don't do much web stuff currently

i would usually have a "Press any key to start" screen, which would start music (& detect input type)

i think once you've interacted with a domain enough your browser whitelists it so audio can play immediately, but i don't think it's something to rely on

Yeah I use gamemaker and have been playing around with various different perspectives.

You have to handle the drawing code yourself but it's pretty trivial.

There's no isometric level editor so depending on needs you might need to make your own

wow excuse the compression

tell him I said "pss-pss-pss"

As someone who is pro-AI as a technology, but also quite anti-what-some-people-are-doing-with-it I can relate to that.

I was skipping through Spotify recommendations the other day and several AI songs played. It was immediately obvious, and they weren't enjoyable to listen to.

I would definitely say Generative AI can be used as a tool - the use of AI for Into The Spiderverse is a good example of that.

But using a model as text-to-image isn't a tool, it's a toy

In my opinion the art in Generative AI isn't the output, it’s in the human choices behind the code and training data that shape the model’s output. The resulting model varies wildly based on this human input.

For running a model and getting an image out of it - yeah human input is minimal

those controls are tricky! satisfying when you get it down and get a good climb going. the volume was a bit loud

Good job!

The art where you set up a can of pain to swing over a canvas looks very cool and I think most would consider it art. I wonder if there’s a point where enough human input or guidance makes the AI just the rope in that setup and the human input is the can of paint.

Then you have stuff like Control Nets, which complicate things. These allow you to guide or 'control' the generation. You can draw the line art, give a depth map of a 3D scene you've modelled, pick the colour palette. Is that enough control for it to be considered art again? I dunno. 🤷

For the most part, image generating is deterministic. If you take the same AI model as me and give it all the same inputs then you'll generate the same image. It feels like the images already exist, and we’re just uncovering them.

It's an awkward thing trying to decide what is and isn't art.

I tend to think the model itself is art, but any outputs through plain prompting (text-to-image) as not being art. But that feels really arbitrary.

Gamemaker will eventually let you use other languages too, they're currently working on adding Javascript (I think useable in beta), but other languages will be coming.

Sure commerce halted, widespread panic ensued, entire nations took a day off
but in the aftermath we’ll have the best bug reports ever

New features hot off the press no matter how half-baked

"If it breaks in production, we could lose millions!"

Good, we’ll call it an exciting pivot

Check your corner shop for a "Spanish" sandwich.
My local post office used to do a Spanish chicken sandwich and is probably very similar

My bet is the sauce is pretty much mayo, tomato paste, peppers, onions, garlic
