Have fun! I don’t know if you like co-op games, but another fave of mine is Ghost Stories and usually plays in about an hour (though a bit longer if you play with the White Moon expansion, which I love).

Wingspan is fun (and I really love birds, so the cards and art are great), but has a tendency to feel a bit too long. I like Wyrmspan better as it addresses some of the flaws in Wingspan. Some great shorter games are Castles of Burgundy, It’s a Wonderful World, Forest Shuffle, and 7 Wonders.

Some other thoughts, those games I just listed are in the 2-3 hour range for playtime, but expect them to be 3+ the first time or three. If you want some 1-2 hour play length game recommendations I will post some later today.

Terraforming Mars is super fantastic. Played it many times. Would recommend playing the app to help learn the game. If you buy it, grab the Prelude expansion with the base game, that gives all players an early boost and reduces play length by a good 30-45 minutes.

Germany’s board game of the year definitely helps inform current trends, but I have found it not always representative of what I am super into. Current faves that come to mind: Maracaibo, Darwin’s Journey, Beyond the Sun, Marrakesh, Age of Innovation.

I would argue that the constraints of the technology or platform can actually lead to novel and innovative output. The sound chip on the NES would be an obvious example of such a constraint. And the DuckTales soundtrack rocks 🤘

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your point, but I don’t think production quality is the typical limiting factor. For example, the original version of Mega Man 2 Wily Fortress 1 on the NES exceeds the quality (and enjoyment) of any remaster or remix I have heard.

Reckoners series is really good and I think Skyward is even better… I’ve read all of them except Lux and Defiant.
