I’m the same vintage. I had no idea. But then again … I was pretty clueless about a lot of things. Like almost every 21 year old (except of course my own boys who know pretty much everything. If you don’t believe that, just ask them).

I would add …. unless, possibly, you’re talking basic preventive care, “healthcare” is an inferior good, yes? That alone distorts what “the market” can do.
