like, i can’t imagine a world in which a “worker owned” AI cooperative or something like that actually works. how could it compete with commercial AI? openai would just sell a much more capable version to companies because they are not beholden to said guidelines

yeah, i see what you're saying but i think my question is more fundamental. if our society *cannot handle* this technology, is a "good" version of it the answer? automating away the good jobs is only going to lead to even more radical income disparity, and devaluing human art makes us less human.

i think you're making good points but i can't tell if you're saying we should be making "good chatgpt" - what if the technology itself is harmful, the way it's broadly deployed? how do we get people to stop using chatgpt if it becomes clear that it's a net negative for our society?

well, not trying to be condescending and i promise i’m not uninformed - i’m an artist, an engineer, and i’ve worked in music for over a decade 😃

you’re saying that there’s room for artist-owned generative AI? forgive me but i’ve not heard a lot of interest in that from artists

it’s also just crazy that an artist would agree to promote something that is quite literally aiming to put *all* artists out of a job. incredibly lacking in self awareness
