VKontakte has become so unpopular among people I know that I finally no longer keep any tabs with it permanently open.

Can't wait to do the same with Twitter but unfortunately there are enough people still who post exclusively there.

Something went wrong. Somehow. We have no idea what it is or how it happened though, because we somehow don't fully own our product experience.

So someone built an unofficial server for the Mail.Ru Agent, an IM app that was briefly popular in Russia in the late 00s before VK introduced instant messaging. Of course I had to give it a try.

So this is a reminder that *this* is what peak desktop instant […]

I need opinions on #smithereen API.

For notifications, which format would you prefer more, this https://smithereen.software/docs/api/methods/notifications.get/ or something even more deduplicated with `wall_posts`, `comments`, `photos`, and `board_topics` as separate arrays? Or maybe something […]

I love modern technology... when it works. Which isn't something one should take for granted.

My AirPods stopped working. After some googling I found out that this might be a firmware version mismatch. Unpaired them and then paired one at a time as one […]

Modern macOS still supports type and creator codes from classic Mac OS, even on APFS. I wonder if it's possible to use them to differentiate between .ts as a TypeScript source and .ts as an MPEG-TS video file.

From the creators of the stupidest "oh no you clicked a link that leads to THE INTERNET, are you sure you want to do that" warnings, a tooltip that points to a text field to explain you that you can, in fact, type your message there. With a superfluous […]

It blows my mind that a real person has written the code that does this and never once did they pause and ask themselves "what the actual fuck am I doing, maybe this should not be done"
December 10, 2025 at 6:41 AM
Lol, VKontakte is becoming even more Facebook. Or Twitter.

They removed the docs for half the API methods (that mysteriously stopped working for third-party app IDs a while ago anyway), and for half of the remaining half, they did this.

Translation […]

So I made a list of remaining API methods that I need to implement. Probably an incomplete one. It turns out there are 105 of them. One hundred and five 🫠

If mobile OSes had the feature of modern game consoles where it records the screen continuously into a buffer in memory and then saves that recording of the past when you ask it to, it would make figuring out some bugs so much easier.

Brought to you by a bug report that had me question my […]
