This is a dumb statement & for many reasons.

For one, what you call "ties" stem from him being born there. Asking someone to sever all ties with his birth place is just not realistic (& stupid).

Plus gay rights situation in a country can change, having supporters of gay rights there cannot hurt.

I don't understand this message. Who is it for? People who voted Trump or didn't vote?
Also how is this effective?

They were in power, they had the means to prevent all this, they didn't, stop shaming people who had only the power of "one vote".

Seems to work pretty well.
