Year end festivities are one of the things I dislike the most and while I often grumble about it, I wouldn't dream of actively sabotaging other people's fun. I wish that were a courtesy people would extend to me as well, but empathy dies on the holidays, it seems.

If you've ever worked in anime localization/dubbing then you would know that the client needs to be aware of EVERY decision by the studio. They have final say on everything; even casting choices. Amazon doing this without their knowledge is HUGE. At the very least it would endanger their license.
Kadokawa stated that it did not approve of an AI dub, and Sentai stated that it wasn't aware of the dub beforehand.

I’m glad the AI voiceover was removed, but the fact that it was done to Banana Fish—a series about the horrors of human exploitation—is especially heinous IMO.

I know Banana Fish wasn't the only series with an AI dub slapped onto it, but part of me wonders if the reason why they selected Banana Fish specifically as one of the test beds was because Banana Fish is early foundational gay media and thought it would have fewer viewers and no one would catch it.
