My buddy pointed out their new weird spaghetti proportions reminded him of those freaky deep sea bigfin squids and oh my god dude I think my mind has been opened

My best friend Malamar who would never ever lie to me told me to go to my local Pokemon Center store yesterday, and the next thing I knew, I woke up with my credit card information, identity, AND both kidneys stolen. Malamar was one of my main lil dudes & the cornerstone of my weird gimmicky double battle team WAYYY back in XY (the last Pokemon game I ever played before I sadly lost my 3DS 😭), so seeing all the sudden love for this evil freaking squid after like 12 years is honestly awesome ;_; 💜🦑

A digital illustration by GrimmbleWick. This piece was created for the 2025 "Fishy" zine, a collaborative project focused on a fictional detective noir setting featuring aquatic creatures. A seedy bar filled with various freshwater fish is framed in a tilted, fish-eye lens perspective with two figures seated at the bar at the forefront. The smaller figure is a detective based on a Corydoras catfish. They're clad in a trench coat and fedora, a pipe held between their whiskered catfish lips. Their gaze is steely as they furtively slide an evidence folder labeled "Richard Bass" towards the larger figure seated beside them. The larger figure, a certain "Al Carpone", appears to be a mobster based on a carp. Dressed in a suit and fedora, they puff on a cigar, a smug grin curled on their face as they loom over the detective. The bar's other various patrons glower ominously in the background, their features mostly shadowed except for their eyes. The silhouette of an alligator gar bartender (a gartender, if you will) wipes down the bar top, several alcohol bottles and a glinting fork visible behind the counter. At the very back, a lone figure is seen hastily making their way out the establishment's front door. They glance back nervously at the detective as they flee, their appearance suspiciously similar to that of the photo attached to the evidence folder.
